Dear Family,
This year Nana wanted to give the gift of our family history to the Albiston clan. The plan started out as a printed book, but as she worked on compiling her history and collecting photos and other documents, she soon learned that the volume of information made a book impractical.
After some thought, the suggestion was made to put the information on-line so that all the family could access it whenever they desired. An online archive has the benefit of allowing editing and appending of content as the collection grows. It also allows for the sharing of multi media. Nana became very excited to make Pampa’s and her history available to all of her posterity through www.albistonlegacy.com.
The site contains most of the photos in Nana’s family scrapbook and Pampa’s WWII scrapbook. It also has a draft of the history that Nana has been working on for many years. In addition, over four hours of Nana and Pampa’s 8mm home movies were digitized and are available for viewing. The home movies haven’t been altered, and are presented as Pampa edited them onto six-inch reels. They are roughly in chronological order and cover from the mid 1950s to about 1970.
Like many Christmas presents, this one is a work in progress. You may encounter glitches as you navigate the site. Those imperfections will be sorted out with time. The site will also evolve as Nana is able to edit and post additional content. The home movies are currently password protected. As more photos, history and documents are added, that content will also be password protected.
Undoubtedly many family members are in possession of content that would complement Nana’s collection. In the future, a place will be provided for family to contribute items they may have.
So take some time this holiday season and celebrate the great legacy that was handed down from two remarkable individuals that built a foundation upon which we depend each day of our lives.
With Love
